หลักการใช้ The present Perfect Continuous Tense   โครงสร้าง       S + has /have + been + V+ing   1. ใช้กับเหตุหารณ์ที่เกิดขึ้นในอดีตและดำเนินเรื่อยมาจนถึงปัจจุบัน และยังคงดำเนินต่อไป ใช้กับคำว่า since และ for  ส่วนมากมักจะใช้กับ verb ที่มีความหมายเป็นการกระทำที่นาน (long action) เช่น learn , lie , stay , sit ,  stand , study , sleep, rest , read , work , wait , play , etc. ต่างกับ present perfect  ก็ตรงที่ใช้เน้นการกระทำที่ต่อเนื่องกัน และอาจจะดำเนินต่อไปในอนาคต   - We have been living here since 1987 (= We came here in the past and we are still living here now - She's been waiting for a long time(= She's still waiting now.) - I've been studying English for eight years. ( = She's still studying English now.) - James has been painting that door since three o'clock and he hasn't finished it yet (หมายเหตุ - เหตุการณ์ ทั้งหลายเหล่านี้ยังไม่เสร็จสิ้นลง) 2. ใช้กับเหตุการณ์ซึ่งได้เกิดขึ้นและผ่านพ้นไปแล้ว  แต่ยังคงทิ้งร่องรอยให้เห็นได้ในขณะที่พูด เช่น   - The workmen have been digging up the raod and now the traffic cannot pass - What have you been eating? Your lips and chin are purple. - We have been driving along muddy roads and now the car is dirty - He has been drinking and can't walk straight . - He has been studying all night and has fallen aslep in class.
